Our Story
Roots of Resilience — also known as Adventure With Us — began in Coventry in 2023. This is how a small volunteer idea grew into a community supporting men, families and communities across the city.
Milestones
2022
Wild Camping Adventures
Paul and Andrew first go nearly-wild camping but soon realise that apart from the experience of camping under the stars - the real benefit of being outdoors has a profound and positive effect on their mental wellbeing - they have to share it!
2023
Growth and a new home in the woods
Andrew and Paul form their community - inviting other men - testing the simple idea that time outside, shared effort and honest conversations can help men build resilience. Their official camping home - just outside Coventry is established.
2024
Our first Resilience Workshops
Camping can be cold in the winter, and so new events are imagined and at the end of 2024 - Roots of Resilience produce and run their first ever 6-week Resilience Course. Aimed at men who want to grow in emotional strength, purpose and real connection.
2025
Reaching out to all - growth changes everything
Steady growth leads to putting structured mental-health awareness visits in as part of the Roots of Resilience calendar. Promoting resilience tools alongside their outdoor activities lead to their first spot at starting a Men's Support Group - Men's Monthly.
2026
The team expands and more activities are added
Roots of Resilience is significantly strengthened by the recruitment of Barry and Joel, who bring invaluable Procedures and Safeguarding knowledge. Autumn launches Sporting Activities and Family days to the established Rosta of FREE programmes.
Today
Over 150 men supported, 70 wellbeing and sporting sessions delivered
The community has now grown to six programmes across three venues, supported by funders and partners including Hub of Hope, Coventry City Council, Parcelforce Worldwide, and Sport England.

The Future…
Greater integration with Sports Teams, Communities and building on our previous successes - to be a warm, low-pressure place, where more people are welcomed and where they feel that they belong.
Why we started
There comes a point when we need to stop pulling people out of the river, but go upstream and find out why they keep falling in. Roots of Resilience asks: How do we become more resilient in the face of life's challenges? Through mental health awareness, practical outdoor activities, small groups, and in-person courses based in Coventry, we explore the core pillars of resilience, helping individuals build the strength, habits, and mindset needed to thrive.
